We are a few weeks out from the event but I went along to a training ride and briefing to really get to know what it is all about and to be honest I'm blown away, I knew it was for a major cause but I know even more now and it's changed me for the better and this is just after one encounter, I'm really excited to experience the full event.
A quick fact that stuck with me.
"In 2016, 2,866 people tragically lost their lives to suicide. On average 7 people per day die by suicide in Australia and it is estimated a further 65,300 people attempt suicide every year."
For perspective that was over twice the amount of the road toll in the same year.
Below are some images of the people that have committed to riding the long way from Sydney to Melbourne covering 1433km in 8 days to raise awareness for this cause. A lot of these people have lived first hand with mental illness or know someone who has and are making a difference to stamp out the stigma of mental health
I'm excited to cover this event daily as it's more than just an event it's a very important cause. and don't forget if you are having a hard time, speak up and get help x.
